Our Phuket Getaway

Idyllic bliss

Mr. Gecko and I arrived in Phuket and were nearly blinded by the shimmering sea reflected from the sunny rays. We whiffed in our first breath of the humid salty sea breeze, taking in the soothing sounds of the sea waves and imaginary "Wecome To Bummer's Paradise!" chorus started playing in my head - even before we truly checked out the island.

OK, I exaggerated slightly. Because Phuket's our first beach holiday. Because Mr. Gecko had initiated a stress-free, worries-free and guilt-free holiday! Because it's moi's birthday!!!

We NEVER bummed during our previous travels. Because Mr. Gecko does not allow it. Really. So, Phuket's a complete refreshing style of travelling comfort for us, or rather me. Hehe...

Like how we bummed the minute we checked into The Phulin Resort at Karon Beach. We couldn't help it, both of us were so won over by our room's aesthetic appeal. There were fresh flowers on the bed upon our arrival, swathes of delicate fabrics overhanging above the bed and the couch gave the the room the perfect finishing touches for a tropical feel and best of all, we even had a reading corner by the window! Is there anything more pleasant than flipping a book by the window in the afternoon, propped comfortably by fat cushions with a cup of coffee in hand while nursing your sun burn? And it was only a standard room we stayed in!

The Phulin Resort truly exceeded our expectations

A trip to the The Baray Spa for a good traditional spa and whole body massage completed our bummer package. How I wish I could afford the same treatment in Singapore for its price. The Baray Spa, in its exotic Thai grandeur resplendence, offers a complete spa and massage experience for only 2,000 baht per person!

Mr. Gecko seemed adamant on a all-relaxing holiday this time round when he booked a 3 hours massage and spa package for us.

For almost the whole of this trip, we hanged out at the beaches most of the time. Patong Beach area for the crowds and hubbub and Karon Beach for its romantic and relaxing atmosphere.

We had some interesting finds at the beach...

Nothing beats the day trip to the Phi Phi islands, for me lah coz' Mr. Gecko was quite seasick from the 2 hours speedboat ride. Maya Bay, where The Beach was filmed around the area, is gorgeous. The emerald-colored sea is so alluring, it does not even look salty to me... I know that's a weird thought of mine but really, I cannot imagine how anything so beautifully colored be salty? Isn't the image of saltiness more like, the depths of armpits?

We spent the whole day dipping in and out of the sea, snorkelling, swimming in lagoons and feeding the fishes with fungus bread. Our skin was practically screaming PAIN! from being overexposured in the sun. Mr. Gecko was labelled Mr. Itchy Back-o when he kept grinding his back on the bed when we retired for the night, like a snake.

Aquamarine Sea

For us, Phuket is really all about having fun in the Sun, Sea, Sand, Spa, Street Shopping and of course, the inevitable Sunburn. *ouch*

At the end of the day, we loved sitting down on the beach mat soaking in the soft glow as the vision of the beach silhouetted by the setting sun, wholly complemented with pinkish and orangey streaks in the sky lay before us. As the evening sun quietly slid down the horizon, words need not be spoken as Mr. Gecko circled his arm around my waist. I know.
