To Sydney!!! (Part 2 - To Blue Mountains)

Life Fleets By As We Move On To Blue Mountains

One 2 hour train ride from Sydney's Central Station promptly took us out of the concrete jungle to Sydney's less populated but famous mountainous countryside. Greeneries and majestic Mother Nature rule the game here. It was a nice and refreshing change of scenery as we arrived at Katoomba train station - greeted by the ultra-fresh air and cold mountainous winds. We felt almost like we were on Hogwart's express train ride as we toot-toot to a stop at the small but quaint train station lugging our luggages and first stepped onto the platform.

Blue Mountains is truly nature at its best. We were awed struck by the grand backdrop of blue sky, blue swirling mist amidst the expanse of lush foliage and dominating rugged cliffs. I felt like a tiny ant and Mr. Gecko? A little lizard lah! :)

The thought of bush-walking and basking in mommy nature made Mr. Gecko all the more excited. The backdrop fuelled his leggy powress as he egged and dictated the his lazy sidekick to charge full steam ahead!

The Blue Mountain's trolley made life easy for me as it took us along the mountain trail to explore Gordons Fall and other Blue Mountain famous sites. We also went a trail-walking, stopping by at the oh-so-cute Leurella Toy Musuem and stopped by *overhype again* Leura Cascades. All we see is a small trickle of water in comparison to what our guidebook claimed to be one cascade of pour. Geez.

Things went downhill *no pun intended* for me in the mid-day with the increasingly inclement weather as sheer physical strains took its toll on me. It was big mistake for me to belittle the weather conditions in Sydney, I did not bring clothes to provide me sufficient warmth and Mr. Gecko was already damn irritated with me and tagged me as a pampered brat. Still, we had to call it a day after exploring The Three Sisters in a Scenic Train and a cable ride and I was, to my horror, nose bleeding! I feel guilty till this day for marring the whole day for Mr. Gecko.

Ahh... it was not too bad an idea to retire early as we got to enjoy our night stay at Old Leura Dairy - Studio. It was my major-est highlight of the trip and proved to be one of the greatest delights for us!! We felt we were being tucked away in a little world of our own much like The Little Prince story. I swear, it's almost magical.

The second day in Blue Mountains started great with the balmy weather and a van ride to Jenolan Caves with an experieced guide. We explored the Temple of Baal and the guide kindly stopped at some site visits like Govett's Leap, another rugged landscape and to an open field to spot wild wallabies along the way. *Arrgh!* It's a dung infested minefield. We had to side-side-step-step a long way of shit to justfiably observed the wild wallabies from a safe distance. Can you imagine the wallabies shit and eat all on the same patch of grass and they can do the same thing at the same time (eating while shitting)??!

Top Left - Jenolan Caves (Limestone Formation) - I call it the Devil's Mouth
Top Right - A Seemingly Angel-Like Formation Inside Temple of Baal
Bottom Left - Beautiful Flowery Blooms
Bottom Right - Jameison Valley, Another very Beautiful landscape we stopped by on our way to Jenolan Caves

All too soon...it was time to head back to Sydney's city late in the evening. I felt a pang of loss for no reason. I can't explain why too. Perhaps because I knew with the pulling away of the train, I will not feel the Blue Mountains' magic again with Mr. Gecko for some years to come? Perhaps I felt the whole trip's coming to end soon? I can't pinpoint. I am only too glad I had the chance to experience all Blue Mountains has to offer, courtesy of my good, old Mr. Gecko.
